State govt fixes retail price of onion at Rs. 70 per kg

January 04: The skyrocketing price of onion has been a major issue of grievance among the people. In many parts of the state, the retail price of onion went upto Rs.150 per kg. It is in this connection that the Assam government has stepped in control of the price of the price of onion in the retail market.

Additional Deputy Commissioner for food, civil supply and consumer affairs department, Bipul Kumar Das fixed the retail price of onion at Rs. 70 per kg in a review meeting held. He said that though the price of onion is gradually decreasing, yet some scrupulous retailers are still charging high rate for onion and potato.

However, inspite of the government directive, the retail shops in Silchar were selling onions at Rs.80 to Rs.100 till 3 January.
