Sonowal, Himanta carries the coffin of the martyred CRPF jawan
February 16: On Saturday evening, the mortal remains of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) jawan, Maneshwar Basumatary (47), who died in Pulwama attack in Jammu & Kashmir, landed at the Borjhar-based Air Force Station in Guwahati. Assam Chief Minister Sarbanada Sonowal and Assam Finance Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma along with other officials carried the coffin, wrapped in the national flag on their shoulder.
The mortal remains was sent to his home town along with one attendee F/No. 031516222 CT/GD Buddhadev Roy from Srinagar to Delhi by IL-76 military plane and from Delhi to Guwahati by Indigo flight No. 6-E-939. Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda has announced a sum of Rs 20 lakh ex-gratia to the family of martyred Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) jawan Maneswar Basumatary from Baksa who died in the Pulwama terror Attack.
The body of the martyr, who hailed from Kalbari village under Tamulpur police station in Baksa district of Assam, was received with national honour. The mortal remains were later sent to his hometown in a helicopter. Sonowal along with other leaders of the Assam BJP paid rich tributes to the martyr. Basumatary is survived by his wife Sunmati and two children – Dhananjay and Didwm Shree.
The 44 CRPF jawans who were martyred in a suicide attack in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pulwama on Thursday were returning from leave. More than 2500 CRPF personel were travelling in a convoy of 78 vehicles when a Jaish-e-Mohammad suicide bomber rammed a SUV carrying 350 kg of explosives into a bus carrying the CRPF troopers. There were no survivors in the bus. The Pakistan-based Jaish-e-Mohammed terror group has claimed responsibility for the attack.
