Smuggled from Myanmar, Rs 12 cr drugs seized in Mizoram, one held

way2barak, May 22 : Heroin worth Rs 12 crore was seized in Mizoram on Monday and a 16-year-old-boy was arrested in this connection, police said.

A police official said that acting on a tip-off, a CID (Special Branch) team of the Police intercepted a truck at Tawngtaimual Zemabawk near Aizawl and about 2.461 grams of heroin contained in 200 soap cases were recovered from the vehicle.

The assistant of the truck, who is a resident of southern Assam’s Hailakandi district, was arrested in connection with the seizure, he said.

The seized heroin, vehicle and the detainee handed over to Bawngkawn police station for further investigation and legal action.

The heroin was smuggled from Myanmar and before sending these to other parts of India, the drugs were seized.

A case has been registered under the Narcotics Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act 1985 and the probe was on.
