SMC observes World Toilet Day with weeklong sanitation drive in Silcharবিশ্ব টয়লেট দিবস উপলক্ষে শিলচরে সপ্তাহব্যাপী স্যানিটেশন ড্রাইভ
ওয়েটুবরাক, ২১ নভেম্বর: — বিশ্ব টয়লেট দিবস উপলক্ষে সপ্তাহব্যাপী কর্মসূচি হাতে নিয়ে শিলচর পুর নিগম ট্রাঙ্ক রোড ও ডাক বাংলো পাবলিক টয়লেটকে পরিষ্কার-পরিচ্ছন্ন করে জনসচেতনতার প্রাণবন্ত কেন্দ্রে রূপান্তর করে। ১৯ নভেম্বর আয়োজিত এই উদ্যোগে শিলচর পৌর নিগমের নবনিযুক্ত আয়ুক্ত শ্রীমতী সৃষ্টি সিং সক্রিয় সম্পন্ন দেন, যাঁর সক্রিয় ভূমিকা শিলচরকে আরও পরিষ্কার ও দায়িত্বশীল শহর হিসেবে গড়ে তোলার চলতি মিশনে নতুন গতি এনে দিয়েছে।
কর্মসূচির সময় নিগমের আয়ুক্তের সাথে উপস্থিত ছিলেন পৌর নিগমের নির্বাহী আধিকারিক নবোত্তম শর্মা, পৌরসখী কালেকশন এজেন্সির সুপারভাইজার এবং সৃষ্টি ওয়েস্ট ম্যানেজমেন্ট টিম। তাঁরা একযোগে টয়লেটগুলি পরিদর্শন করেন এবং সেগুলির রক্ষণাবেক্ষণে নিযুক্ত ফ্রন্টলাইন কর্মীদের সঙ্গে কথা বলেন। বিশ্ব টয়লেট দিবস থেকে ট্রাঙ্ক রোড এবং ডাক বাংলো উভয় পাবলিক টয়লেটই সম্পূর্ণভাবে কার্যকর করা হয়েছে, যাতে নাগরিকরা পরিষ্কার, নিরাপদ এবং স্বাস্থ্যসম্মত স্যানিটেশন পরিষেবা পেতে পারেন।
উদ্যোগটি সম্পর্কে প্রতিক্রিয়া জানাতে গিয়ে নিগমের নবনিযুক্ত আয়ুক্ত সৃষ্টি সিং সংশ্লিষ্ট সব দলের আন্তরিক প্রচেষ্টার প্রশংসা করেন এবং উল্লেখ করেন যে, সুষ্ঠুভাবে রক্ষণাবেক্ষিত পাবলিক টয়লেট একটি শহরের নাগরিক শৃঙ্খলার প্রতিফলন। তিনি বলেন, এমন উদ্যোগ সফল করতে শুধু পরিকাঠামো নয়, নাগরিকদের সক্রিয় অংশগ্রহণও অত্যন্ত জরুরি। পাশাপাশি তিনি নাগরিকদের প্রতি আহ্বান জানান যে, তাঁরা যেন এই সুবিধাগুলো দায়িত্বশীলভাবে ব্যবহার করেন এবং এসএমসির পরিচ্ছন্নতা অভিযানে সহায়তা করেন।
অনবদ্য সেবার স্বীকৃতিস্বরূপ আয়ুক্ত শ্রীমতী সিং এই গুরুত্বপূর্ণ জনপরিষেবাগুলির রক্ষণাবেক্ষণে নিয়মিতভাবে অবদান রেখে চলা ব্যক্তিদের সম্মানিত করেন। তিনি বলেন, তাঁদের অবদান ‘স্বচ্ছ শিলচর’-এর চেতনাকে প্রতিফলিত করে এবং যৌথ দায়বদ্ধতার গুরুত্বকে আরও দৃঢ় করে।
সচেতনতা বৃদ্ধির অংশ হিসেবে টয়লেটগুলিকে রঙিন শোভা ও টাটকা ফুল দিয়ে সাজানো হয়, যা স্যানিটেশন সচেতনতার এক আকর্ষণীয় প্রতীক হয়ে ওঠে। সৃষ্টি টিম আগত দর্শনার্থীদের সঙ্গে সুসংবদ্ধ বার্তা বিনিময় করে তাঁদের পরিচ্ছন্ন টয়লেট ব্যবহারের অভ্যাস গ্রহণে উৎসাহিত করে এবং শহরের স্যানিটেশন লক্ষ্য পূরণে সহযোগিতার আহ্বান জানায়।
বরাক উপত্যকার তথ্য ও জনসংযোগ বিভাগের আঞ্চলিক কার্যালয় শিলচর থেকে প্রকাশিত এক প্রেস বিজ্ঞপ্তিতে এ খবর জানানো হয়েছে।
During the programme, the Commissioner, accompanied by the Executive Officer of SMC,Nabuttom Sharma, Pourasakhis, collection agency supervisors and the Shrishti Waste Management Team, assessed the facilities and interacted with the frontline workers responsible for maintaining them. Both the Trunk Road and Dak Bunglow public toilets have now been made fully functional from World Toilet Day onward, offering citizens improved access to clean, safe and hygienic sanitation services.
Reacting to the initiative, Commissioner Srishti Singh appreciated the sincere efforts of all teams involved and emphasised that well-maintained public toilets are a reflection of a city’s civic discipline. She stated that the success of such initiatives depends not only on infrastructure but also on public participation, urging citizens to treat these facilities responsibly and support SMC’s ongoing cleanliness mission.
In recognition of their commitment, Commissioner Singh felicitated the individuals who have been consistently ensuring the upkeep of these important public amenities. Their contributions, she said, reflect the spirit of Swachh Silchar and reinforce the importance of collective responsibility in maintaining shared spaces.
As part of the awareness effort, the toilets were decorated with vibrant colours and fresh flowers, turning them into eye-catching symbols of sanitation consciousness. The Shrishti team engaged visitors with thoughtful messaging, encouraging the community to adopt clean toilet habits and extend their support to the city’s sanitation goals.
