Smash Season-1: A Historic Triumph in Assam University Silchar’s Sporting Legacy

way2barak March 25 : Assam University Badminton Club (AUBC) successfully organized ‘Smash Season-1’, the first ever Open Prize Money Badminton Tournament at Assam University Silchar from March 22 to 24, 2025. Held at Netaji Mukta Mancha, the event witnessed participation from 153 players, including international, national, state and district level athletes.

The tournament was inaugurated by Prof. M. Tineshowri Devi, Director of Assam University Sports Board, alongside Shri Rahul Dey (DSA Badminton Coach) and Shri Suman Gupta (Branch Manager, UCO Bank). Featuring eight competitive categories, the Men’s Open Doubles and Under-15 Boys Singles saw the highest participation.

The grand finale and prize distribution ceremony were graced by the Vice Chancellor Prof. Rajive Mohan Pant, alongside distinguished guests, faculty and university officials. Dr. Lalzo Thangjhom (President, AUBC) welcomed the gathering, while Shri K. Anand Kr Singha (General Secretary, AUBC) presented the tournament highlights, followed by a vote of thanks from Dr. Saurav Dey (Vice President, AUBC).

Shri Anupam Dey,Treasurer, Shri Manjit Singha, Joint Treasurer, H. Nishan Singha, Joint Secretary, Harshita Thakuria(Media & Publicity Co-ordinator), Shri Rajiv Singha, Shri Amit Uraon, along with the Research Scholars, Students, Staff and External Members of AUBC were also present during the closing and prize distribution Ceremony.

Men’s Open Singles: Bonep Sinha (Champion), Amarjyoti Sinha (Runner-up)

Women’s Open Singles: Upasana Das (Champion), Rudrani Sur (Runner-up)

-Under-15 Boys Singles: Th. Bishal Singha (Champion), A. Denis Singha (Runner-up)

Under-15 Girls Singles: H. Sneha Singha (Champion), Anushka Sinha (Runner-up)

Men’s Open Doubles: Bonep Sinha & Abhishek Dutta (Champion), Amarjyoti Sinha & Yaithoiba Maisnam (Runner-up)

Women’s Open Doubles: Upasana Das & H. Sneha Singha (Champion), Harshita Thakuria & Rudrani Sur (Runner-up)

Super Veterans Doubles (Male) : Saumitra Das & Rajendra Prasad Singh (Champion), Kartick Das & Soumendu Chakraborty (Runner-up)

Veterans Doubles (Male, 45+) : Pallab Kanti Das & Amarjit Bhattacharjee (Champion), Jagat Jyoti Rajkumar & Rajendra Sinha (Runner-up)

Special awards included Best Emerging Player (Male: Shivansh Shaw, Female: Hritisha Saha), Best Player of the Tournament (Sujusha Raja Basumatary) and Best Dedicated Sports Person, Smash Season-1 (H. Nissan Singha).
