Site inspected at Kathal, DC’s office to be shifted; architect to finalise the spot: CM Assam

Oct. 13: During his last visit to Silchar, Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma disclosed his plan about shifting the office of the Deputy Commissioner of Cachar outside the main town. On the day of Maha Saptami, Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma inspected 3 probable sites where the new integrated establishment of the Deputy Commissioner of Cachar can be shifted. The CM said, “Today I have seen around two to three sites where the DC’s office can be shifted. The team of architects will come over here and finalise the site.”

There is hardly any space for expansion within the heart of Silchar. Keeping this aspect in mind, the office of the Deputy Commissioner (DC), Cachar will be shifted from its existing place. An amount of Rs.50 crore has been set aside for this purpose. The DC Office along with its amalgamated offices will now be brought under one roof and will be named as ‘Integrated DC Office.’ CM Sarma also informed that the Circuit House will also be shifted from its existing place. “My intention is to shift the DC Office, Circuit House to the same spot. Further, there is also a talk of shifting Silchar Jail to Lakhipur where there has been a look out for land.

During his earlier visit to Silchar, the chief Minister announced, “There is no free space for people at all in Silchar town. So when these establishments will be shifted from outside Silchar town, sufficient free space will then be available. As in Guwahati, I have shifted the Soil Conservation office and build Sadbhavna Garden there. Even, we have shifted the Machkhuwa Jail and in its place, we have built a Botanical Garden. In a similar pattern, I have decided to do work in Silchar. When the 2nd block of the new DC office will be completed, then the non-amalgamated offices like PWD, Health etc. will also be shifted. At that moment, huge government land will be available within Silchar town which can be used as open space.”

Further, the Chief minister said that bridges at Annapurna Ghat, Madhuramukh etc. have been built, but till now the approach road could not be constructed due to issues of land acquisition. Today I had visited the sites and i will aso release the money for land acquisition so that the bridges could be completed very soon. There are 4 such bridges of this nature and all of them would be completed soon,” said CM Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma.
