Silchar Youth Congress burns effigy of former minister Nilamani Sen Deka, show cause notice issued

November 19: The derogatory remarks made by former Congress minister Nilamani Sen Deka against the Bengali community invited the wrath of his own party members. On Tuesday, the members of Silchar Assembly Youth Congress burnt the effigy of Nilmani Sen Dekha outside their party office. They demanded that such type of persons must be thrown away from the party.

Speaking with way2barak, Kushal Dutta, President of Silchar Assembly Youth Congress said, “We strongly demand an apology from Nilmani Sen Deka to the Bengali community.for his distasteful remark.. Such kind of persons has got no right to be in the party and must be ripped apart of his primary membership. We are sanguine in our demand. If in any case, the party fails to take appropriate action, then we will intensify our movement.”

Infact, it was alleged that on 17 November, 2019, Congress leader and former minister Nilmani Sen Deka while speaking with the electronic media commented against the Bengali community. The byte of Mr. Deka soon became viral and invited the wrath of the Bengalis. Silchar Youth Congress came down agrily upon him and further said that anyone spreading venom against any community or religion will be opposed by us, be it Rajen Gohain or Himanta Biswa Sarma or Nilmani Sen Deka.

Meanwhile, on 18 November, 2019, the Assam Congress Congress Committee served a show-cause notice to former state Agriculture Minister Nilamani Sen Deka over his alleged remark against the Bengali community and said that this has sparked reactions among the community in both Brahmaputra and Barak Valley. \Deka was asked to reply to the show-cause notice within three days.

In another such development, the state Congress has issued a media dictum for the party workers on 17 November. As per the notice, from no onwards, the only APCC notified senior spokesperson; spokesperson and media panellists can address the media and represent the party discussions in various media houses only with prior intimation to state president or chairman of the media cell. The notice further stated that except them, no Congress party functionaries or any leader of the party shall speak before the press or give TV Bytes or participate in media as a panelist.
