Silchar Veteran Cricketers Club felicitates sportspersons, journalists, football referees

Sept. 11: Four years ago, a few sports lovers came together and formed “Silchar Veteran Cricketers Club.” Since its inception, the Veteran Cricketers Club has been dedicated in the upliftment of games and sports in the valley. The club also felicitates upcoming cricketers and sports persons every year.

This year too, on Saturday, the Veteran Cricketers Club felicitated the two best cricketers of the year. At the same time, eight sports journalists, eight football referees and three cricketers who played in the state team last season were honored. Further, gifts were given to four employees of Silchar District Sports Association.

Expressing his views, Vijendra Prasad Singh on behalf of Veterans Cricketers Club said, “Thank you to everyone for accepting our honor and attending this ceremony. By honoring you, we are equally honored today. I am grateful to Pradeep Das who by responding to our call arranged the entire ceremony in such a nice manner.” He also showered lavish praises upon former cabinet Minister Gautam Roy. Mr Singh said, “We are indeed greatful to him. Since our inception, he has been giving us Rs.50,000 every year. Today, he handed over this year’s contribution of Rs.50,000.” Also present during the ceremony were Babul Hore, Animesh Sengupta among others.
