Silchar Municipal Corporation to launch joint crackdown on illegal parking near hospitals

The increasing number of improperly parked vehicles along this crucial route has been causing significant inconvenience to patients, attendants, and emergency vehicles. Many hospital authorities have also raised concerns that such unruly parking practices are hampering the timely movement of ambulances and creating bottlenecks during peak hours.

To address the issue, a joint verification drive will be conducted by the District Transport Office (DTO), Cachar, the Silchar Police, and officials from the Silchar Municipal Corporation. The team will identify violators and impose fines or penalties on vehicles found parked in restricted zones or along roadsides that block access to hospitals.

Meanwhile, reacting to the illegal parking issue, SMC Commissioner, Srishti Singh also expressed serious concern over the situation and directed the enforcement agencies to act firmly yet sensitively. She stated, “Ensuring smooth and safe access to hospitals is our top priority. Illegal parking in front of healthcare institutions cannot be tolerated, as it directly affects emergency services and public convenience. The SMC will adopt a zero-tolerance approach to such violations, and necessary penalties will be imposed without delay.”

She further stated that Silchar’s roads, particularly those connecting to major hospitals, must remain free from obstruction. She said “This is not just penalizing offenders but on ensuring a sense of civic discipline. Every citizen must understand that their convenience should never come at the cost of someone’s emergency.”

She further appealed to the public to cooperate with the authorities by using designated parking spaces and following traffic regulations.

However, the SMC has reiterated that the upcoming drive aims to restore order, ensure road safety, and maintain easy access to vital medical facilities. Strict measures, including towing of vehicles and heavier penalties for repeat offenders, will be implemented to deter violations.

The coordinated effort by the SMC, DTO, and Police is expected to significantly improve traffic management along the hospital route and serve as a strong message against civic indiscipline. Citizens have been urged to extend full support to this initiative to help make Silchar’s roads safer and more accessible for all.
