Silchar Inner Wheel Club celebrates 18th Installation ceremony

July 27: The 18th Installation ceremony of Inner Wheel Club (IWC) of Silchar was held on Tuesday. Keeping in mind the ongoing pandemic, a simple ceremony was organised with only the office bearers and strictly following the COVID-19 protocol. The ceremony began with a pledge to fight COVID-19 by raising awareness among the masses. The installation ceremony was organised in blended mode (both online & offline).

The chief guest of the occasion was Amita Mundra, District Chairman of Dist 324, who graced the occasion in virtual mode. The programme began with lightning the lamp by the dignitaries Sumita Som- Immediate Past Hon Association and the Guest of Honour of the occasion along with the executive committee members. The other two Guests of honour were Sudha Mundra- Past District Chairman of Dist 324 and Anindita Dey Pal- District Treasurer.

Immediate Past President (IPP) Sutopa Bhattacharjee handed over the Club Charter and presented the collar, to the President 2020-21 Shilpi Ghosh. It needs mention here that Shilpi Ghosh was the Secretary in the previous year. During the occasion, the souvenir of Inner Wheel Club of Silchar “Sristhi” was released. The Editor of the issue is Mohul Mitra. The members of Inner Wheel Club of Silchar organised the programme wearing face masks and maintaining social distancing. During the day, the members of Inner Wheel Club of Silchar observed a minute silence as a mark of tribute for the five brave heart Assam Police jawans who laid down their lives on their line of duty on Monday at Assam- Mizoram border.

The Inner Wheel Theme of the year “Pink First” was echoed in the speech of the new President Shilpi Ghosh. She asserted that that in a time when the world is captivated by novel coronavirus, the members of Inner Wheel Club will definitely rise above the occasion and spread awareness to contain the further spread of this deadly virus. She further stated that Women must lead in every sector whether it’s social, financial or political. The UN 2030 Agenda clearly states that gender equality and the empowerment of all women and girls is the catalyst for the achievement of all sustainable development goals.

During the inaugural ceremony Indrani Bhattacharjee, Madhuparna Basak and Sampa Banik performed two dance numbers. Earlier, the report of the Secretary was read by Shilpi Ghosh by means of a virtual slide show. It needs mention that Inner Wheel Club, Silchar achieved great success in the previous year under the Presidentship of Sutapa Bhattacharjee.
