Silchar, fulertal to Kanakpur route to remain shut for heavy vehicles for three months

way2barak, November 13: — The Public Works (Roads) Department, Silchar and Udharbond Territorial Road Division, has announced the temporary closure of the existing bridge on the Silchar-Fulertal Road connecting Kanakpur for all types of heavy vehicular traffic from November 18, 2025, to February 18, 2026, to facilitate dismantling and reconstruction of a new RCC bridge.
According to an official notification issued by Executive Engineer Aniruddha Nag, the bridge will remain completely closed to heavy vehicles during the reconstruction period. However, two-wheelers and three-wheelers will be allowed to move through the newly constructed stretch beside the bridge.
For all other categories of vehicles, the administration has arranged an alternative diversion route via Nathpara road through Berenga, ensuring smooth traffic movement during the construction phase.
The PWRD authority has expressed regret for the inconvenience that may be caused to the public and sought cooperation from all commuters to ensure successful and timely completion of the project.
Once completed, the new RCC bridge is expected to enhance road safety, improve connectivity, and ensure a smoother travel experience for thousands of daily commuters between Silchar, Kanakpur, and adjoining areas.
