Silchar Corporation voter list : Date of Claims and Objections extended till 30th June

way2barak, June 27::—In a move aimed at strengthening the integrity and accuracy of the electoral process for the upcoming Silchar Municipal Corporation elections, the Assam State Election Commission has issued a series of important directives to the District Administration and concerned Registration Officers. These instructions are primarily focused on ensuring that eligible voters are properly included in the revised electoral rolls in accordance with the latest delimitation notification.

The Commission has advised that all cases concerning the voting rights of electors within the jurisdiction of the Silchar Municipal Corporation must be meticulously reviewed. This process must be conducted through the designated Registration Officers, who are to verify household and habitation records as per the delimitation notification. If it is determined that the relevant habitations fall within the municipal wards, the corresponding electors must be duly incorporated into the Corporation’s Electoral Rolls. Moreover, the Commission has stressed the need to ensure that such electors, though previously enrolled in the Panchayat Electoral Rolls, are deleted from those rolls in due course to avoid duplication and maintain electoral sanctity.

Additionally, the Commission has directed that any transfers of electors between parts of municipal wards must also be handled with the same level of diligence. Each such case is to be examined by the respective Registration Officer under the framework of the delimitation guidelines, followed by appropriate action in line with the applicable electoral rules.

Acknowledging the genuine demand from the public, the Assam State Election Commission has also decided to extend the timeline for filing Claims and Objections regarding the electoral rolls. The revised deadline for submission has been extended till 30th June 2025. Authorities have been instructed to ensure that the process of disposal of these claims and objections runs concurrently, with a firm deadline of 5th July 2025 for completion. The final Electoral Rolls are scheduled to be published on 8th July 2025, as per the Commission’s earlier notification.

These proactive steps by the Commission are intended to ensure that the electoral rolls of Silchar Municipal Corporation are comprehensive, updated, and reflective of the true voter base, thereby enabling free, fair, and transparent local body elections.

This is stated in a press release issued from Regional office of Information & Public Relations Barak valley Zone Silchar Assam.
