Silchar Civil Hospital opened for COVID-19 +ve patients on Thursday

12 positive patients detected in Cachar on Thursday

July 2: A total of 10 persons were tested COVID-19 positive in Cachar on Wednesday. In the morning 2 persons were detected positive, out of which, one of them, a 37 years old person from Athal Basti in Cachar is the driver of Dr. Orina Raha of Silchar Medical College & Hospital (SMCH), who tested positive on Wednesday. Another 73-year-old person from Billarpar, Dholai in Cachar also tested positive on Thursday morning. This aged person had Influenza Like Illness (ILI) and is symptomatic in nature.

In the evening, 10 more persons were detected as COVID-19 positive in Cachar. Out of them, three are family members of 61-year-old Supriti Paul who tested positive on Wednesday. They all are residents of Daspara in Rongpur, Silchar.

Apart from these 5, a 29-year old nurse working in Kalain hospital also tested positive. Her swab sample was collected as a part of Assam Targeted Surveillance Programme (ATSP). Another 27 years old person from Dholcherra in Cachar who was also tested under ATSP tested positive. The other 3 positive cases detected from Cachar on Thursday are a 18-year-old male who came from West Tripura and was quarantined in Hotel Kalpataru; 25-year man from Sonai who returned from Mumbai and another 29 years old man.

Expressing his views, District Media Expert Suman Choudhury said that out of the 10 patients detected on Thursday, 7 of them will be admitted on Thursday night at SM Dev Civil Hospital, Silchar. He said that this is for the 1st time that COVID-19 positive patients will be admitted in the Silchar Civil Hospital.

Late on Thursday night, Suman Choudhury informed that two more persons were detected as positive in the night, which took the day’s corona tally to 12. He said that out of the 2, one of them is from the army, whereas the other is a civilian with a travel history. Till the filing of this report, further details about these two positive patients were not known.
