Silchar Civil Hospital completes 100 years, Himanta assures to upgrade it to 300-bedded hospital

Sept. 29: Deputy Commissioner, Cachar, Keerthi Jalli has proposed to the Minister for Health and Family Welfare, Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma for remodelling of SM Dev Civil Hospital on its 100th anniversary. The proposal was readily accepted by the Minister.

Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma has announced that the 100-year-old District Civil Hospital which is in a dilapidated condition would be dismantled and in its place a 300-bedded hospital will come up involving around 40 to 50 crore.

The Minister pointed out that the new civil hospital would be made as an annexe hospital of SMC&H. He said that converting the civil hospital into an annexe hospital would help to decongest the SMC&H as PG students would have to render their services at the Civil Hospital.

It needs mention here that the foundation stone of the civil hospital was laid by Frederick John Napier on 2 November, 1920.
