Shiv Sena MP seeks President’s assent on Women Safety Bill
way2barak, August 20: Shiv Sena (UBT) Rajya Sabha MP Priyanka Chatrurvedi wrote to President Droupadi Murmu on the occasion of Raksha Bandhan, seeking her assent to a pending Maharashtra Bill on swift action and stringent punishment for crimes against women.
“I want to draw your attention towards the Shakti Criminal Laws (Maharastra Amendment) Bill, 2020, and the Special Court and Machinery for Implementation of Maharashtra Shakti Criminal Law, 2020, which, during the government led by Shri Uddhav Thackeray, had passed in both Houses
after extensive stakeholder discussion and debate in the Maharashtra State Assembly in 2021. The Bill was significant and historic as it prioritised women’s safety and introduced stringent punishment and swift prosecution. However, it has been awaiting your assent since then,” Chaturvedi wrote.
“…Today as the country celebrates the festival of Raksha Bandhan – a celebration that symbolises protection and care – I find it particularly important to emphasise the need for your immediate attention to this matter,” she said in the letter on Monday.
