গুয়াহাটিতে বাংলা গান ধরতেই কাগজের বল ছুঁড়ে মারা হল শানকে

২৯ অক্টোবরঃ গুয়াহাটির সরুসজাই স্টেডিয়ামে একের পর এক গান গাইছিলেন বলিউডের কণ্ঠশিল্পী শান (মুখার্জি)। কখনও আয়োজকদের অনুরোধে অসমিয়া গান শোনান। কখনও দর্শকদের দাবি মেটাতে হিন্দি গেয়েছেন। বাদ পড়েনি বিহুও। ভূপেন হাজরিকারও বেশ কিছু গান গেয়ে দেন।

কিন্তু শান নিজের ইচ্ছেয় একটি বাংলা গান ধরতেই আপত্তি ওঠে। কিশোরকুমারের বিখ্যাত গান ‘পৃথিবী বদলে গেছে, যা দেখি নতুন লাগে’, পুরোটা গাইতে পারেননি। শুরুতে বিষয়টিতে তেমন গুরুত্ব দেননি সারেগামাপা থেকে সিনেমায় উঠে আসা শান। কিন্তু কিছুক্ষণের মধ্যে মঞ্চে আসতে থাকে একের পর এক কাগজের বল।

মঞ্চ থেকে একটি বল কুড়িয়ে নিয়ে তিনি খেদভরে শোনালেন, আসাম তো ভারতেই অংশ। শিল্পীদের স্বাধীনতা দেওয়া ভারতের প্রতিটি রাজ্যের দায়িত্ব। আঞ্চলিক আবেগ থেকে বেরিয়ে আসুন। জয়হিন্দ বলে তিনি সেখানেই নিজের অনুষ্ঠান বলে ঘোষণা করেন। তবে এর আগে শেষ গানটি পুরোটা গেয়ে দিতে চান। যেই না কিশোরকুমারের সেই গানের তালে কোমর দোলাবেন, তখন ফের হইচই শুরু হয়। শান ফের সবাইকে স্মরণ করিয়ে দেন, দেশটার নাম ভারত। অসম আলাদা কিছু নয়। সবকিছুতে অসমিয়া-অসমিয়া বলে রাজনীতি করবেন না।

 

সেখানেই থেমে যাননি বিশিষ্ট সঙ্গীতশিল্পী শান মুখার্জি। বলেন, আপনারা যদি অন্য ভাষার গান গাইতে না দেন, আমাকে শুধু অসমিয়া গানই গাইতে বলেন, তাহলে কী আর করা যাবে বলে তিনি একটি আরেকটি অসমিয়া গান গেয়ে মঞ্চ থেকে নেমে আসেন।

October 29: In an incident of linguistic chauvinism, Bollywood singer Shaan (Mukherjee) was thrown paper balls when he sang a Bengali song in a concert at Sarusajai Stadium on Sunday night. Shaan picked up a paper ball thrown at him and said “Learn to respect a performer, we don’t like it go away”.

On that night, Shaan sang a number of Hindi and Assamese songs, including Bihu songs and numbers of Bhupen Hazarika. But the moment he saw only a few lines of a Bengali song of Kishore Kumar (Prithivi bodle geche, ja dekhi notun lage), paper balls were hurled at him from the audience. On picking up one such paper ball and reading its content, Shaan became furious and blasted the audience and said “Assam is a part of India. Artists should be given liberty and respect, come out of regional sentiments. Jai Hind.” He then declared that he is not going to perform anymore.

 

However, within a minute, he once again addressed the crowd and said that he was going to perform his last song. He then started a dance number but stopped it mid-way. Shaan once again addressed the audience and said that, “I have performed in many places around the world. I sing in many languages.” He further said “Remember, we are one country, India is one. Assam is not alone. He in a strong voice said, “Don’t make it a political issue.”

Shaan did not stop here. He further went on and said, “If you want to listen to only Assamese song, if you behave in this manner if I sing in any other language, then come on let me sing Assamese songs only.” Saying so, he started singing an Assamese song and ended his programme with it.

 

The issue has generated widespread criticism in social media wherein many are voicing protest against the linguistic jingoism exhibited by the audience at Guwahati. Many are commenting that in the paper balls which were thrown at Shaan, it was written to sing only Assamese songs. The Event Manager of the show, Bharat Poddar said “Shaan is a Bollywood singer & Bengali by birth. If he sings Bengali song in a show, nobody has the right to throw stones at him.”

The aggressive gesture exhibited by the unruly audience towards a renowned singer of the reputation of Shaan has definitely lowered the esteem of not only Guwahati but of entire Assam.
