Sensor enabled smart shoe designed by a Class IX student of Karimganj to help the blind

April 2: A great emphasis has been laid upon skill enhancement by the present government. India is a country where we have countless talented persons who using their skills often comes up with innovative devices. One such instance is a young boy who studies in Rowland’s Memorial High School in Karimganj. This school student from Karimganj has designed a sensor enabled ‘smart shoe’ which is capable of emitting beep sound whenever any obstacles comes in front of the shoe. the sensor is capable to detect any obstacle upto 5 metres within its range.

This budding innovator identified as Anukrit Karmakar said that his new innovative shoe is nothing tough as that of rocket science. “I have learnt the technique by watching YouTube. In designing the device, I have made use of only two ultrasonic sensors, which emits signal to a mother board kind of board. The moment any object comes in front of the shoe, the device starts emitting beep sound. This would caution the blind person and he/she would be aware of the impending obstacle.”

But how did he manage to purchase the items needed to build the smart shoe? To this Anukrit replied that his father has helped him by allowing him to use his smart phone. An amount of Rs.2,000 was needed to build the gadget, which was given by his father. Anukrit, however, said that the price of the shoe could be brought down, if it is produced in bulk.

Anukrit also told that he was trying to make a flying stretcher for the patients. Though he has failed in devising it for four times, but he still has hope and will continue with his experiments. He also has in his mind to make an electric chair. Earlier, Anukrit has made a bike, which too is in running condition.
