Aug. 16: Debeswar Talukdar, Senior Assistant of Transport department was sentenced to to four years of rigorous imprisonment for taking bribe. He was was fined Rs 18,000 and the court also ordered that on the failure of payment the fine, he would be kept in prison for two extra months. months. Another important aspect of the matter is that the recovered money from his office amounting to Rs. 7,09,470 was confiscated by the Special Judge to the Government of Assam.
Debeswar Talukdar was caught red-handed by the sleuths of vigilance and anti-corruption on December 7, 2015, from his office at Khanapara after he demanded Rs 38,000 for issuing an ‘assurance certificate’. At that time, the normal fee for the certificate was Rs 800. The anti-corruption wing also found Rs 7,09,440 from various files lying on Talukdar’s table.
