Seemantha Chetana Mancha Purvottar undertakes massive flood relief program in border areas of Cachar
More than 24 ton essential items donated by The Hans Foundation distributed by the Mancha to the floodvictims
May 30: The ongoing flood has affected a huge multitude of people in Cachar district. Although the river water has gone down considerably below the danger level, yet by then, many people were rendered homeless as river water flooded their home. As a good Samaritan, many individuals and organisations have come forward to help those people who are now staying in various relief camps or have taken shelter on the roads and dykes.
Seemantha Chetana Mancha Purvottar is taking massive initiative to the catastrophic situation caused by flood throughout the Cachar District in general and border areas under Katigorah constituency in particular. The entire populace of border areas of Cachar District like Kinnokhal, Sadirkhal, Mohadevpur, Noropati, Khelma, Fisca, Pirnagar etc have been entirely submerged in flood water and thereby putting hundreds of families in horrendous situation with no shelter, food and drinking water. Having no place to stay, people are spending night after night on the roads. Situation is more acute with the domesticated animals due to non-availability of fodder.
In the backdrop of this horrific situation, Seemantha Chetana Mancha extended its helping hand to all those people. On every day basis, the organisation is somehow managing food and other essential things to the people. General Secretary of the Silchar chapter of the Mancha, Dr Debotosh Chakraborty said, “Already we distributed medicine, polythene shed, packed as well as cooked food to the victims and also managed some fodder for the dying animals. But these are insufficient to meet the needs of the people and as such we feel that sincere intervention on the part of the district administration and all other govt bodies and NGOs is urgently required. Along with food, medicine and drinking water, there will be requirements of tons of fodder for the animals.”
Ultimately, responding to the call of Seemantha Chetana Mancha Purvottar, The Hans Foundation came forward and donated 24 ton essential items like dal, candle, dettol, water purifier, soap, washing powder, salt, sugar, lighter, dry food items, tarpolin, tea, biscuits, mosquito coil, oil etc for those flood victims.
As a part of massive flood relief work initiated by Seemanta Chetana Mancha Purvottar in association with The Hans Foundation for the Indo-Bangladesh border areas of Cachar District started on May 28 at Kinnokhal sector under Katigorah constituency. On May 29, flood relief items were distributed at Sadirkhal sector under Katigorah constituency.
In response to the call of the Seemanta Chetana Mancha, the Border Security Force (BSF) also took active part in assisting us in organising the relief work for the flood victims. Also members of various NGOs assisted us in managing and packing all the items at Ashirbad Bibhaha Bhawan, Silchar. The next two days, the Organisation will distribute all essential commodities to the other affected border areas like Mahadevpur Sector and Brojolalpur sector.
