Section 144 imposed in Hailakandi

August 5: Section 144 of CrPC was declared in Hailakandi district with immediate effect until further order. In an order signed by Keerthi Jalli, Deputy Magistrate, Hailakandi, it was stated that, “Whereas, it has been made to appear before me from the various reports and happenings that there is every likelihood that some antisocial elements/ groups/ organizations who are likely to disturb the peaceful situation in the district and trying to create disturbance in public order and placidity and destroy the harmonious co-existence of all section of societies in the district.”

It was in this backdrop that District Magistrate, Hailakandi district in exercise of power conferred upon her under Section 144 of Cr.P.C., 1973 do hereby prohibit all kinds of procession/ rally/ dharna/ demonstration/ strike/ blockades/large public gathering etc. under Hailakandi district and indulging in any such activity that may disturb the peace and tranquility to common public, which may vitiate peaceful environment and led to communal tensions and segregation among the various groups of society.

The following activities were banned as per this order in the district of Hailakandi:

1. Carrying fire arms/ weapons or explosive substance of any nature which may cause injury or threat to any other people.

2. Use and throwing of fire crackers in the public places/ roads/ bus stations/railway station etc. which may cause breach of peace and tranquility among the public.

3. Shouting of slogans/ writing and postering on walls, roads or public or private buildings, vehicles, trees etc.

4. Inflammatory speeches, communal or anti-state/ anti-national speeches/ banner /poster/ wall writing etc.

5. Use of loud speaker, microphones etc. without permission.
