Lack of pure drinking water; old man drowns in Sonai River while filling his pitcher

way2barak, Dec.15: In an unfortunate incident, an old man got drowned in Sonai river while he was trying to fill a pitcher. The incident occurred on Thursday at Dugaripar village in Udharbond constituency of Cachar district. The old man was identified as Sukumar Das. Immediately the people of the locality informed the police. Following this, the SDRF personnel were pressed into rescue operation.

Informing this, people of the locality blamed the PHE Department for this tragic accident. They told that the PHE was not providing clean drinking water since some months. As such, people of the area are left with no other option but to get water from the river. Sukumar Das too went to the river to fetch water when he suddenly slipped and got drowned.
