Sea of supporters rock the streets of Silchar in support of Dilip Paul on Tuesday

March 30: A huge number of supports took to the streets of Silchar in support of Independent candidate Dilip Kumar Paul on Tuesday morning, the last day of canvassing. Silchar will go for the polls on 1 April. Aggrieved at the decision of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for not providing him the ticket, former MLA Dilip Kumar Paul severed all ties with the party and decided to contest the forthcoming Assembly election from Silchar constituency as an Independent candidate. He has been allotted the symbol of ‘helicopter.

“During COVID phase last year, I came to Silchar multiple times to visit Silchar Medical College & Hospital (SMCH) for Covid-19 management, but during that time, MLA Silchar Dilip Paul did not cooperate with me and rather criticised the government and its fight against Covid in the newspaper published from his house.” This was how, Assam heavyweight minister Himanta Biswa Sarma took a dig at the former BJP leader and present Independent candidate Dilip Kumar Paul during an election rally at Rangirkhari point, Silchar on Monday night.

Addressing the people after the grand rally on Tuesday, Dilip Paul said, “I don’t have any criminal record. I am not involved in any crime like stealing gas cylinders. Is this my crime? Now those involved in malpractices are giving me lessons on ethics. The powerful man in Assam who is talking like a monarch is himself involved in many scams, which we all know. Sarada scam, The person involved in Louis Berger scam and many other scams is now speaking ill of me.” He further said, “The man who is dreaming of becoming the Chief Minister has given weak candidate of BJP in Silchar. That means he is trying to help Congress & Ajmal to get power. I am a Hindu to my very core.”

“By spending lakhs and crores, yesterday the big leader of Assam arranged a rally which was attended hardly by 2500 people. But look, today I have thousands and thousands of people with me. A sea of people have stood beside me today,” said Mr. Paul. ” I acknowledge the fact he (Himanta Biswa Sarma) has done hard work during COVID, but even we were not sitting inside our home. We too were on the streets helping people.”

“My helicopter will not crash, but it is now ready for the surgical strike against the prevailing syndicate raj. Those who know me can say that I am not in greed for any post. I just wanted a honourable exit. But this duplicate BJP played a foul game with me. MP Silchar tried his level best to cancel my party nomination and he succeeded in doing it. After serving the party for 37 years, I have been just thrown out. However, I am indebted to the people of my constituency for the support you have been proving more than the last 10 years, added Dilip Paul.

Dilip Paul even went to say that the present BJP leadership has also deceived the veteran BJP leader Kabindra Purkayastha. He said, “This duplicate BJP assured Kabindra da that they will give ticket to his son. But they has also not kept their word.” Dilip Paul further said, “This is a crusade against illegal actions.of the present duplicate BJP involved in unholy syndicate raj. We are fighting this Dharmayudhha against the Kauravas. And be assured, in this crusade also, the Kauravas will be defeated.”

It needs mention here that Independent candidate Dilip Kumar Paul seems to be in a triangular fight for the prestigious Silchar seat as against Dipayan Chakraborty of the BJP and Tamal Kanti Banik of Congress. Silchar will go for the polls on 1 April, 2021. The counting of votes will be done on 2 May, 2021.
