Schools- colleges to reopen in Assam from September if COVID situation normalises: HBS
July 27: All educational institutions in Assam are likely to reopen in the month of September if the novel coronavirus situation in the state becomes normal and comes under control. This was stated by Assam Education Minister, Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma during an event at Gauhati Medical College & Hospital (GMCH) on Monday. The schools, colleges and all other educational institutions in Assam have been shut after 15 March due to the outbreak of coronavirus pandemic followed by subsequent nationwide lockdown.
The minister said this while he was addressing the newly appointed laboratory technicians at GMCH. He urged them to work with full vigour so that the situation arising out of COVID-19 in the state may soon turn normal within August, 2020. He was hopeful of opening the schools and colleges from 1 September, 2020. In this connection, the minister planned to hold a meeting of ‘Education Task Force’. He, however, added that the state government will chart out a fresh guidelines so that any possibility of infection of students can be averted.
