Russian vaccine Sputnik V to be available in India from May
April 30: Around 1.5 lakh to 2 lakh doses of the Russian Sputnik V vaccine will be available in India by early May and will be rolled out in phases. After Covishield and Covaxin, Russian COVID-19 vaccine Sputnik V has been recommended for emergency use authorisation in India. Dr Redyy’s Laboratoris, the local distributor of Sputnik V informed that India will start receiving this vaccine only by May-end. Dr. Reddy’s further informed that Sputnik V is going to be made in India within a few months.
India’s envoy to Russia Venkatesh Varma during a media briefing on Thursday said, “”Sputnik V will provide a major contribution to India’s vaccination effort, with more than 60-70 percent of doses to be produced in India.”
Sputnik V will become the third Covid-19 vaccine to be used in the country after Covishield and Covaxin. Sputnik V developed by the Gamaleya National Research Institute of Epidemiology and Microbiology was registered by the Ministry of Health of Russia and became the world’s first registered vaccine against COVID-19 based on the established human adenoviral vector platform.
