Rotary District 3240 successfully completes ‘Each One Plant One’ Shyamalima programme
July 21: With the progress of human civilisation, there has been a tremendous dichotomy of depletion of the green covering of our planet earth. Mankind somehow has failed to maintain an equilibrium between the ‘need and the greed’ ratio, which has in turn resulted in environmental degradation. To retain the green, Rotary District 3240 has taken in hand a unique programme. The Rotarians resolved to plant a sapling each by all its members, thereby acting as catalysts in making this world a more better place to live in.
During the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, Subhasish Chatterjee, District Governor of Rotary International District -3240 gave a clarion call to his 3100 plus District Rotarians & their families to plant a sapling each at their residential place, garden, balcony, rooftop or in a pot under the roof during the weekend of 17-19 July, 2020 by remaining at home. The programme “Shyamalima” with its catchword ‘Each one, plant one’ was successful in striking a chord among the Rotarians of District 3240. They have successfully completed the target allotted to them.
District Governor of Rotary International said, “It was indeed gratifying to see the enthusiasm of 3240 District Rotarians including the past District Leaders while they were contributing to this green expedition by planting saplings & supporting the environment – the seventh focus area of Rotary in a big way !”
He further informed that, though the target of plantation of saplings was kept at 3240, but the Rotary Members & Families of Rotarians of all 92 Clubs across states of North East have surpassed the target figure and ended up planting 3638 saplings.
The District Governor also said, “It was a small effort by Rotary district 3240 for our mother earth to make this a better place for our future generations.” In this mega drive, District Governor Subhasish Chatterjee with first lady Pooja Chatterjee along with 92 clubs have participated to show their love and responsibility for nature. The Rotary district 3240 comprises of Assam, Meghalaya, Manipur, Nagaland, Tripura, Mizoram, Arunachal Pradesh, Sikkim and parts of West Bengal.
