Rotary Club of Silchar Pink inaugurates adult literacy centre at Sarvoday Pathshala

Sept. 10: To mark ‘World Literacy Day on 8 of September, 2020, the Rotary Club of Silchar Pink inaugurated an adult literacy Centre at Sarvoday Pathshala , Saratpally, Silchar. The centre will run in collaboration with newly proposed RCC “Sanjyog”. The centre was inaugurated by the President of the club Rtn. Dr. Paromita Das and the Literacy Chairperson Rtn. Kavita Sengupta in the presence of the Headmaster of Sarvoday Pathshala Manoj Paul, President of “SanjYog” Miton Biswas and other members.

Covid 19 protocols were maintained during the inauguration and regular classes will start on obtaining govt  Clearance for classes adhering to Disaster Management act. The centre was started with an aim to ensure complete literacy in the area. In the first batch, 25 ladies aged 40 plus were enrolled. Within three months from the start of the classes, Rotary Pink aims to make the first batch literate followed by subsequent batches. For smooth running of the centre, an instructor, Reshmi Paul has also been appointed. The club also proposed to set up a library for the centre in future course of action.

In her inaugural address, Rtn. Dr. Paromita Das emphasised the importance of literacy and how essential it is for social and all round human development. She also stressed that there is no age bar for learning and that some people in their early age may not have the chance to get education for various reasons which makes this adult education a powerful auxiliary to discover them in a new way.

Rtn. Kavita Sengupta, Principal of Public HS School in her keynote address said that adult illiteracy in the society has been a serious constraint and the reason of all their sufferings. She added that, it is very necessary for the adults to be literate and educated in order to not only ensure the future of their next generation but also in the process of nation building.

Manoj Paul, Headmaster of Sarvoday Pathshala also delivered a speech. On the occasion books, copies and pen were also distributed. The occasion came to an end with a vote of thanks from Miton Biswas.

It needs mention here that the Rotary Club of Silchar Pink also celebrated Teachers’ Day on 5 September and felicitated 3 teachers. The teachers who were honoured during the day are Debanjan Mukherjee, Anita Meena and Sujata Nath.
