Rotary Club of Hailakandi reaches out to meritorious, differently-abled students

Dec.1: Rotary Club of Hailakandi felicitated meritorious students and distributed blankets to underprivileged and differently abled students under the Ushnata initiative here on Sunday.

At a programme held at its office premises, 13 underprivileged students, including three differently abled students were given away blankets along with certificates to six students of SS College, Hailakandi for their outstanding performance in the last degree final examination in the Science stream by the dignitaries. Pharmacist Subrata Kumar Deb was also felicitated for his yeoman service during COVID-19 pandemic situation under the Vocational Excellence Award.

Speaking as chief guest, District Information and Public Relations Officer, Sabir Nishat lauded the slew of initiatives taken by the Rotary Club of Hailakandi for the betterment of the society and also in reaching out to the people in distress during the COVID-19 outbreak. “Our motto in life should be to do good to the society. The best way we can serve God is to serve the suffering humanity,” he quipped.

Head of the Department of Chemistry, SS College, Hailakandi, Sukanya Chowdhury appreciated the philanthropic activities of Rotary Club of Hailakandi. Addressing the gathering, former president of Rotary Club, Harkishore Chanda dwelt at length on various initiatives of the organisation with focus on the education sector. Former Administrative Officer, Government of India, Dr. Sandipan Dhar urged the students to contribute their might towards social causes to make their education meaningful.

President, Rotary Club of Hailakandi, Shankar Choudhury said the organisation has been extending a helping hand to the underprivileged and marginalised segments of the society through a host of initiatives aimed at ameliorating their lot. Prominent social activist, Debashish Guhathakurta, Editor Disha, Bijoyini Bhattacharjee and Bibhabhusan Chakraborty were also present on the occasion.

In another programme held here on Monday, members of Rotary Club of Hailakandi distributed blankets and fruits to 18 numbers of inmates of SK Roy Senior Citizens’ Home, Katlicherra, under the Ushnata initiative.
