Rising cases of COVID-19: Himanta instructs private hospitals of Guwahati to set up specialised facility
July 2: The number of novel coronavirus positive cases are increasing in Assam by leaps and bounds. A total of 8955 persons tested positive till Wednesday night, out of which, 3109 are active cases. Though the recovery rate has also gone upto 70 with the discharge of 5831, yet the number of fresh cases has become a matter of worry fro the state government. On Tuesday and Wednesday alone, 1161 fresh cases were reported from across Assam with Guwahati city recording the maximum cases.
In view of the rising number of cases, and likely further escalation, a meeting was held by the State Health Department with all private hospitals in Guwahati on Thursday. Participating in the meeting, State Health Minister, Himanta Biswa Sarma instructed the private hospitals to set up specialised facility and dedicated teams for COVID-19 management. Later on in a tweet, the minister wrote, “We are in tough times and all must contribute their bit.”

It needs mention here that on Wednesday, Himanta Biswa Sarma inaugurated a 900-bed COVID-19 care hospital at Khanapara field, Guwahati in order to strengthen the treatment capacity amid rising number of positive cases. Further, stepping up the infrastructure for treatment, the state government has set up a 450-bed COVID-19 care hospital at Maniram Dewan Trade Centre, Guwahati, which shall be functional soon.
