RG Baruah Memorial Art Competition held at Silchar DSA along with 29 other centres in Assam

November 12: The Singhapurush Radha Govinda Baruah Memorial all Assam Art competition was held at Silchar along with 29 other centres in Assam on Sunday. Rains failed to dampen the spirit of the budding artists and their guardians. Large number of participants from all the three districts of Barak Valley took part in this event held at DSA, Silchar.

The art competition was inaugurated by Cachar Deputy Commissioner Laya Madduri. She along with the other invitees and guests paid floral tribute on the image of Radha Govinda Baruah. The art competition was infact organised by the Assam Tribune Sports Club for students of Class V to XII. DC Cachar in her address praised such type of creative activity and said that creativity is enriched by participating in such art events.

Dr Apratim Nag, illustrious son of an illustrious father, late Amit Kumar Nag, the former Silchar reporter of The Assam Tribune also graced the occasion. Dr. Apratim teaches Physics at Guru Charan College, Silchar. He said, “During my youth, I have heard a lot about RG Baruah from my father. He used to tell me of the indomitable courage and spirit possessed by him which enabled him to lay the foundation of the Assam Tribune.”

Arindam Gupta, Staff Correspondent of The Assam Tribune delivered the welcome address, where Hailakandi Correspondent Satananda Bhattacharjee delivered the vote of thanks. Former President of Silchar DSA and veteran sports personality Badal Dey also graced the occasion. In organising this event, helping hands were lend by Redesign NGO, Ghar Samriddhi NGO, Abahan and Batayan. The programme was compered by Mithun Roy.
