Revision in wages of tea garden workers by ₹38; workers in Brahmaputra to get ₹205 & ₹183 in Barak
May 28: The Assam Government in February 2021 decided to enhance the daily wage of tea garden workers in the State by Rs. 50. However, the tea garden owners opposed the decision of the government and moved the High Court against the government’s notification of raising the daily wage hike by Rs. 50. Meanwhile, the Labour Welfare Department, through a notification on May 26 cancelled its earlier notification of February 23, 2021 as regards enhancement of daily wage by Rs.50.
However, on Friday, a significant decision was taken by the state government as regards the enhancement of the daily wage of the tea garden workers. In consultation with workers unions, garden management, the Assam government accorded an upward revision in wages of tea garden workers by Rs 38, to be effective from 23 February. With this, workers in Brahmaputra Valley shall get Rs 167+38 (Rs 205) & those in Barak Valley will get Rs 145 + 38 (Rs 183).
For the remaining Rs 12, we shall initiate consultation with stakeholders and certain that an acceptable solution will be found out soon.
My sincere thanks to all for making this happen. 3/3@pallablochandas @sanjoykishan1
