Retired cop Pallav Bhattacharjee appointed as new APSC Chairman

January 31: Instead of any political person or any civilian officer, Assam government preferred to appoint ormer Additional Director General of Police (ADGP-SB) Pallav Bhattacharya (IPS) as the new Chairman of Assam Public Service Commission (APSC). His appointment is viewed as the government’s effort to curb corruption in the infamous cash- for-job department.

Further, IAS Sanjib Gohain Baruah and Vice Principal of SB Deorah College Niranjan Kalita have been appointed as the member of APSC.

Rakesh Kumar Paul who was once the Chairman of the APSC, is currently behind bars for several cash- for-job corruption cases in APSC.
