Retail firecracker trade largely affected due to poor weather in Silchar

way2barak, Oct.25: After two years of pandemic hit market, traders expected good sale of fire crackers during this Diwali. However, the Sitrang effect upset the market this year leading to poor sale of fire crackers. Make-shift retail firecracker stores are generally set up across the nook and corner of Silchar, but light/ moderate rain since Monday has taken a toll on sales to an extent.

The Met office forecast for Tuesday as well is likely to dampen the festive spirits further. IMD stated, “Light to moderate rainfall at most places with isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely over the region on October 25 and isolated heavy rainfall is likely over Arunachal Pradesh, northeast Assam and Nagaland on October 26.”

On Monday night too, it was noticed that due to wind and moderate rainfall, people were unable to burst the crackers. Even the roadside stalls had to put over their head plastic sheets to prevent the crackers from getting wet. But unfortunately, the rain kept many customers away from the markets.
