Ray of hope: 93-year-old lady gets cured & discharged from COVID ward
July 16: When the numbers speak of a scenario of negativity encircling COVID-19, certain incidents brings back ray of hope and the urge to fight the fatal virus. In one such incident, a 93-year-old lady from Guwahati identified as Jibini Devi Baid was infected with coronavirus. She was admitted at Gauhati Medical College & Hospital (GMCH). However, she was successful in defeating the deadly virus and emerge victorious in the battle against it. She got recovered and was discharged from GMCH on Thursday.
Sharing this information, State Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma in a tweet wrote, “At times, we get opportunity to smile amid adversity too! Guwahati’s 93-yr-old Mrs Jibini Devi Baid was discharged from GMCH after having firmly defeated #coronavirus. An incredible story also of competence of our doctors who handled this delicate case with finest precision.”
Another person whose 76-year-old father was COVID-19 positive tweeted, “My sincere thanks to @himantabiswa Sir, @PomiBaruah Madam @nhm_assam for the care and treatment to my 76year old father, Saroj Dutta, who has been discharged today from GMCH Covid Care facility. Must admit, excellent facility offered by the Govt of Assam for Covid patients.”
The minister on Thursday also said during a press briefing in Guwahati that from COVID19 testing to food for the infected patients has been made free only in Assam in the entire country. He said, “In other states, the COVID19 patients have to buy food and bear the cost of the treatment. Only in our Assam, the health department of the state government is bearing all the expenditures of a COVID19 patient – from food to the treatment.”
