Rapid rise in corona cases, Sonapur & Kalapahar hospitals kept on standby to accomodate more patients
May 20: Assam has witnessed a rapid rise in the number of coronavirus patients since large number of stranded people has started to return back to the state. On Tuesday alone, 42 persons were detected COVID-19 positive in Assam. In order to accommodate more number of coronavirus patients in the state, Assam government has decided to keep Sonapur Civil Hospital & Kalapahar Hospital on a stand by basis.

On Wednesday, State Health Minister, Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma visited both Sonapur Civil Hospital & Kalapahar Hospital along with other officials and asked the respective district administration to ramp up preparations. The total number of coronavirus cases in the state has reached 157. Out of this 197 patients, 41 were already discharged, 4 patients died, while 2 of them migrated. At present, there are 110 active COVID-19 patients in the state.
