Railway journey to become more costly as extra charge will be levied for using trains at revamped stations
Oct. 10: Passengers willing to travel by train will now have to pay more for their journey tickets as Railways has contemplated to hike the fare. Passengers might have to pay a user fee ranging between Rs10 to Rs50 for boarding or deboarding trains at station that have been redeveloped or will be revamped later, according to a report. A proposal to this effect was sent by the Railways to the Cabinet for their approval. Once the Cabinet gives green signal, a notification in this connection will be issued by the concerned ministry.
Passengers will not have to pay this additional fee separately. The fee will be automatically added to the ticket fare while booking the tickets. The additional charges for railway passengers will be added to five categories. The highest fee will be charged in AC First Class and subsequently less for AC-2, AC_3 and Sleeper classes. The lowest fee will be charged from the passengers travelling in the general compartment.
