Railway conducts eviction drive at Tarapur after failure to comply with multiple evacuation notice

March 29: The Railway authorities has issued notice several times to the dwellers in the Tarapur area who had settled in their land. More than 150 families had build their houses and also set up shops in the land of Railway in the area adjoining Silchar Railway Station. All of them were service legal notices to vacate the land multiple times, but none paid any heed to the evacuation notice.

Finally, on Tuesday, the Railway authorities carried on eviction drive in presence of security personnel. Bulldozers were used by the department to break the illegal dwelling houses and shops constructed there since couple of years. As per sources, though the inhabitants who settled there urged upon the Railway authority to spot the drive, but no untoward incident happened when the bulldozers were breaking the houses one after another.

Within a few hours, the unauthorised structures were demolished. However, the dwellers had their own tale to narrate. They alleged that several representations to the public representation for providing them alternate place to stay went on unheard.
