Radhamadhab College remembers Bir Tikendrajit with profound honour

August 16: Koireng, popularly known as Bir Tikendrajit, was one of the unforgettable nationalist figures of Manipur. He holds a unique position in India’s freedom struggle. With the inborn nature of a patriot, he boldly defied the aggressive acts of the mighty British imperialist power. He was against imperialism and colonialism. In short, he was a crusader who resisted the expansion of colonialism. These were the words used by Sudarshan Gupta while delivering his lecture as the chief speaker during the observation of Patriot’s Day at Radhamadhab College (RMC), Silchar.

On 13 August, 2019, the Department of Manipuri of Radhamadhab College, Silchar observed ‘Patriot’s Day’ with great devotion. This is the day when Bir Tikendrajit attained martyrdom fighting against the British imperial power. In this connection, a programme was organised in the auditorium of the college. The programme presided over by Dr. P.K. Sinha, Principal in-charge was also graced by Dr. Rahul Sarania, IQAC Coordinator and Ch Manikumar Singh, Head of the Department of Manipuri. The chief speaker of the occasion was Sudarshan Gupta, Assistant Professor of History of the College.

The programme began with offering of floral tribute in the portrait of Bir Tikendrajit. After felicitating the guests, Ch Manikumar Singh, Head of the Department of Manipuri of the college highlighted the objective behind organising such a programme. He welcome the dignitaries on the dias and mentioned about the sacrifice made by Bir Tikendrajit for his country.

Dr. P.K. Sinha, Principal in-charge of Radhamadhab College also spoke on the qualities of bravery and patriotism exhibited by Bir Tikendrajit. He urged upon the students to always respect the martyrs. Dr. Sinha said, “A hero of magnificent proportions, deeply popular with the masses, Yubaraj Bir Tikendrajit Singh was an exemplary patriot who lived and died for the dignity and independence of Manipur and its people.”

This was followed by a cultural programme in which the students of Manipuri Department performed a number of cultural items. Dressed in their traditional attire, students of the department upholded Manipuri tradition and culture. The anchor of the programme was Dr. Y. Medhajit Sharma, a teacher of the Manipuri Department of RMC.
