Radhamadhab College pays tribute to Dr Ranganathan on National Librarians Day

Aug. 12: To commemorate the 129th birth anniversary of Dr S.R. Ranganathan, Father of Indian Libraries, National Librarians’ Day was observed at the Bipin Pal Central Library of Radhamadhab College, Silchar. Dr Sonali Choudhury Biswas, Librarian of the College organised a brief programme wherein floral tributes were paid to Dr S R Ranganathan (1892-1972), who had spearheaded library development in India. Dr. Debashish Roy, Principal of the college also graced the occasion.

Garlanding the portrait of S.R. Ranganathan, Dr Sonali Choudhury Biswas, Librarian of RMC said, “Due to the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic, we are unable to celebrate this day in a befitting manner. However, today, we express our profound respect to the person who revolutionised library and library science in our country.” Principal Dr Debashish Roy said, “On this day, I call upon the librarians to play a crucial role in making students read books and newspapers and excel in their chosen career.”

Also present during the occasion were Arundhuti Dutta Choudhury- Head, Department of English, Sudarshan Gupta- Head, Deptt of History, Asstt Professors, Arunabha Bhattacharjee & Ch Mani Kumar Singh, Head Assistant Pranab Kr Dey, Library Staff Galim Gangmei and Supriya Das.
