- 28 February, 1884: Death anniversary of Veer Surendra Sai, great Indian freedom fighter and revolutionary. Surendra Sai and his associates resisted the British and protected a large part of Western Odisha region from the British rule. Surendra Sai died in Asirgarh Jail.
- 28 February, 1928: National Science Day, celebrated to mark the discovery of the Raman effect by Sir CV Raman on this day. He was awarded the Nobel Prize in Physics in 1930 for this discovery.
- 28 February, 1947: Anti-government uprising in Taiwan is violently put down by Chiang Kai–shek and his Kuomintang-led Republic of China government with the loss of 18,000-28,000 lives. Marks the beginning of the White Terror. This is known February 28 Massacre.
