Prof. Dipendu Das speaks on ‘Trajectory of Indian English Literature’ in a lecture series organised by RMC

way2barak, Dec.24: The month long lecture series programme, “Lecture Series on Literary Studies ” organized by the Deptt of English in collaboration with IQAC, Radhamadhab College came to an end on Saturday with a prolific deliberation by the senior faculty of the Deptt of English, Assam University and former Dean of SKC School of English and Foreign Languages, Prof Dipendu Das on the topic, “The Trajectory of Indian English Literature: Tracing its Evolving Identity”.

Prof. Dipendu Das delivered a historical overview of the initiation of Western Education and the emergence of English as a language of Colonial power structure of the British and later an instrument of energizing the Bengal Renaissance for empowering India as a storehouse of ancient knowledge and wisdom. The Lecture has drawn on various stages that helped English to become the chief medium of expression for the Indian writers writing in English in both Pre and Post-Independence India.

The previous two lectures were delivered by eminent speakers from the Deptt of English, Assam University, Prof Anindya Syam Choudhury, who discussed on the topic ,”Reading Poetry in the English Classroom ” and Dr Saugata Kumar Nath who spoke on the topic, “Reading Fiction in the English Classroom ” in two separate sessions in the College. Students pursuing literature courses and faculty members from various departments participated in the lecture sessions.
