Proactive Senior Citizens’ Forum demands publication of geographic map of proposed city of Silchar

way2barak, Oct.8: During the recently concluded Autumn Session of the Assam Legislative Assembly, the Assam Municipal (Amendment) Bill, 2022 and the Assam Municipal Corporation (Amendment) Bill, 2022 were passed. This would pave the way for converting Silchar Municipal Board to Municipal Corporation.

The establishment of Silchar Municipal Corporation will witness inclusion of new areas within the ambit of the city. It is in this backdrop that Prof. Dilip Kumar Dey, General Secretary of Proactive Senior Citizens’ Forum, Silchar sent a memorandum to the Chief Minister of Assam, wherein he demanded to publish large geographic map of proposed city of Silchar in local dailies so that citizens may study, understand and put forward suggestions and opinions. A copy of the said memorandum was also sent to the Chief Secretary of Assam, Commissioner & Secretary, Municipal Affairs, Assam, DDC Cachar.

The Proactive Senior Citizens’ Forum, Silchar further stated “Arbitrary inclusion or exclusion of areas by officials from outside Silchar/ state without consultation with actual citizens/ inhabitants is not desirable. It is not a political issue. It is a matter of development and convenience of citizens.
So, kindly publish a clear full-page map of the proposed city-map of Silchar with proposed roads, bridges, parks, hospitals, entertainment centres, office campus etc in all leading dailies from Silchar and invite observations and suggestions.”
