Post-NRC in Assam, Meghalaya sets up anti-infiltration check points in inter-state borders

September 1: The final NRC list of Assam’s National Register of Citizens (NRC) was published on Saturday morning. Out of a total number of 3,30,27,661 applicants, the names of 3,11,21,004 were included in the final NRC. That means a total of 19,06,657 persons were excluded from the NRC. As an aftermath of the declaration of final NRC in Assam,a  high alert was sounded in Meghalaya.

Checking was conducted by Meghalaya police on Sunday in national highways along the inter-state border, especially in districts sharing borders with Assam. Though strange but yet members of the Khasi Students’ Union (KSU) were reportedly present at checkpoints along with the police. All vehicles were stopped and passengers were asked to show identity documents.
