Police Raj! Child mercilessly beaten inside police station in Assam for stealing biscuits
March 21: A few days ago, a police constable was suspended in Guwahati, Assam for merciless thrashing of a two-wheeler rider on the pretext of violating traffic rules. Within a week, another such incident was reported in the state, where the cops were accused of mercilessly beating a child for stealing biscuits. The incident took place inside the Laharighat police station in the Morigaon district of Assam on Monday.
Soon the video of the incident became viral in social media and the clip was also shown by the electronic media. This led to resentment against the role of police in the state. As per reports, a child around 13 years of age was reportedly caught while stealing biscuits from a vehicle parked inside the premises of the Laharighat police station.
The boy was then brought inside the police station, where he was thrashed in an inhuman manner. In the viral video of the incident, the child was seen crying in pain while a man wearing a green gamosha can be seen repeatedly hitting him with a stick while two other policemen were watching the atrocity. The child was repeatedly pleading to stop and was crying out of severe pain.
The viral video of the incident has sent a chill of horror among the netizens. One such social media user wrote, “When big shots involved in recent crimes like supari & coal syndicate are roaming about, a poor child was ruthlessly been beaten by the cops for stealing a packet of biscuit. Has the govt allowed the police to do such crimes against humanity in Assam?” Meanwhile, the report of this incident has also reached the power corridors of Dispur and action against the erring cops were contemplated by the department.
