Police detains 17-year-old boy in connection with Shillong bomb blast

Jan. 31: A 17-year-old boy was detained by Meghalaya police in connection with bomb blast at Police Bazar, Shillong on Sunday. A live IED along with some bombs were also recovered from his residence. This was informed by Meghalaya Home Minister Lakhmen Rymbui on Monday.

The boy claimed to be the area commander of the banned Hynniewtrep National liberation Council (HNLC) in Shillong. Police also arrested one of his accomplice. A case was registered in this regard and investigation is on.

At around 6.30 PM on Sunday, a low-intensity blast occured at Police Bazar, the heart of Shillong in Meghalaya. The blast took place near Delhi Misthanna Bhandar. However, Meghalaya Police stated that there were no reports of any casualty. As part of the Sunday lockdown due to Covid, most of the shops there at Police Bazar were closed. Immediately, bomb squad reached the blast site and took charge of the area. However, the blast has given rise to panic among the people.
