PM Vishwakarma fair brings traditional craftsmanship to the fore in Silchar

way2barak, December 23:–Silchar is witnessing a colourful celebration of indigenous craftsmanship as a three-day PM Vishwakarma Exhibition-cum-Trade Fair unfolds from December 22 to 24, offering local artisans a dedicated platform to showcase their skills, creativity and enterprise. Organised by the Branch MSME,Development & Facilitation Office (MSME-DFO), Silchar, under the Ministry of MSME, Government of India, the fair is being held at the serene premises of Sri Sri Gauranga Mahaprabhu Kirtaner Math, Tapoban Nagar.

Exclusively curated for beneficiaries of the PM Vishwakarma Scheme, the exhibition has emerged as a vibrant hub of traditional arts and crafts, where skilled artisans and craftsmen are displaying an array of handcrafted products while giving live demonstrations of age-old techniques. The stalls reflect a rich blend of heritage and innovation, drawing steady footfall from visitors keen to witness authentic craftsmanship and support local talent. Open to the general public, the fair aims to build stronger market linkages and encourage wider community engagement with indigenous products.

The exhibition was formally inaugurated on December 22 at 11 am in the presence of Ms Shristi Singh, IAS Commissioner of Silchar Municipal Corporation, along with G. C. Das, Assistant Director (In-charge), MSME-DFO, Silchar, the General Manager of DICC, Cachar, the Lead District Manager, and a representative of the local MLA, besides other dignitaries. The inaugural event underscored the collective commitment of various stakeholders towards empowering artisans and strengthening the grassroots economy.

With its lively demonstrations, interactive stalls and market-oriented approach, the PM Vishwakarma Fair in Silchar stands as a meaningful initiative to preserve traditional skills while opening new avenues of livelihood, reaffirming the government’s focus on inclusive growth and self-reliance through the MSME sector.
