PM Modi addressed a huge crowd in Karimganj, but remained silent on his previous promises
March 18: Congress has become very weak! Prime Minister Narendra Modi has expressed utter surprise at this phenomenon. While addressing an electoral rally at Bhatgram in Karimganj district on Thursday, PM Modi took a dig at the Congress party and said, “Congress is now forming alliance everywhere with whoever without even judging the qualitative aspects of their partners. In Kerala, Congress is a die hard opposition of the left, whereas in Bengal, they are in friendly terms with the left and are jointly raising the slogan -Lal Selam. A similar condition is now prevailing in Assam.” Commenting further, the Prime Minister said, “All these days, Congress ascribed AIUDF to be a communal party; but surprisingly they are now busy launching their electoral campaign with the lock and key of Ajmal brigade.”
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) had made arrangements for 2 lakh people for the rally of Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Karimganj district. The entire field was full of BJP supporters. The moment the helicopter of PM Modi was seen, people exclaimed with joy and exclaimed in a loud voice ‘Modi Modi’. Later he went up on the dias amidst the cheers of more than 2 lakh supporters.

Addressing the supporters, Modi said, “Congress party neither has any ideology nor ethics in their functioning. That is why, in some place they have forged an alliance with the left whereas in other places, they have regarded the left as their enemy. They did not think even twice before forming an alliance with AIUDF.”
Though the Prime Minister spoke about the improved communication system, assured youths of more jobs, improved trade relations with foreign nations, yet he preferred to be silent upon the promises which he made before the people of Barak Valley earlier. In a similar manner, he was totally silent on the important issues like that of Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) and Assam Accord. He time and again mentioned that for good governance, a government with double engine is essential. He said, “People of Assam have tasted good governance in Assam during the last 5 years. I am hopeful that during this tenure, the state government will be able to do more developmental work.”
Twice in the past, Prime Minister Modi during his visit to Barak Valley assured that the now defunct paper mill will be revived soon. But on Thursday, he was conspicuously silent on this issue of revival of the paper mill. Earlier he promised of breaking the detention camps in Assam, however, later during his regime, new detention camps were build! On a similar note, Modi loudly proclaimed that citizenship will be given to all such people who had to leave their home and hearth and migrated in this part of the country. Since then 6 years have elapsed. Though the CAA was passed by the Parliament, but rules and regulations in this connection are yet to be framed. As such, CAA has not been able to be of any use for these rootless populace. On the contrary, the state machinery is sending foreigners’ notice to many people of Barak Valley. National Register of Citizens (NRC) has been finalised long ago, but his own government in Assam is not ready to accept it. No explanation of these issues was given by the Prime Minister during his speech in Karimganj on Thursday.
However, during the day, PM Modi started his speech in Bengali. Modi began his speech in Sylheti and said, “Bhala achoin ni”, which means “Are you fine.” In his speech, Modi mentioned about many great men and significant places of this valley. But he evaded the main issues which the people of Barak valley wanted him to speak upon!
