Plane skids off runway, breaks into three, 3 dead & 179 injured

February 6: In an unfortunate incident, at least three people died and 179 were injured after a passenger plane skidded off the runway at Istanbul’s Sabiha Gokcen airport on Wednesday. The Pegasus Airlines jet was carrying 171 passengers and six crew members from Izmir province in the west when it crashed at Sabiha Gokcen airport. The plane was broken into three pieces.

One of aircraft’s wings also caught fire, but the blaze was later extinguished. Passengers had to exit through cracks in the smashed plane. Rescuers have been working to free some people stuck on board. The airport was temporarily closed, but has reopened, while prosecutors have opened an investigation into the crash.
