Pijush Hazarika takes stock of preparations ahead of PM’s Silchar Visit

way2barak, March 4:– With Silchar gearing up for a landmark public gathering, preparations have intensified ahead of the visit of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who is scheduled to address a massive public meeting in the town on March 14 as part of his Assam tour.

Minister for Water Resources and Information & Public Relations, Pijush Hazarika, arrived in Silchar on Tuesday morning and directly proceeded to the proposed venue of the public meeting. Accompanied by minister Kaushik Rai, he carried out a detailed inspection of the site and reviewed the progress of ongoing arrangements.

During the subsequent review meeting, a comprehensive PowerPoint presentation was made before the minister covering all aspects of the Prime Minister’s proposed visit. The presentation included the draft invitation card, draft reception plan, airport set-off line-up, venue map, movement plan of the Hon’ble Prime Minister, detailed plans regarding gifts and mementos, a department-wise responsibility matrix, and a checklist of requirements at the venue.

The minister held detailed discussions on public mobilisation, setting a target of 1.5 lakh attendees against the present venue capacity of 1.2 lakh. He emphasised coordinated efforts to ensure smooth participation from across Barak Valley. It was informed that accommodation arrangements would be made across the three districts including Cachar, Hailakandi and Sribhumi to manage the expected turnout.

To facilitate transportation, around 5,000 e-rickshaws will be engaged within Silchar town. Additionally, Sribhumi district will arrange 90 buses and 40 traveller vehicles to support mobilisation efforts.

The Public Works Department (PWD) was instructed to complete the reconstruction and repair of key stretches, including Kathal Road, the ISBT area and the Silchar Bypass, to prevent traffic congestion during the visit. The Public Health Engineering (PHE) Department was directed to ensure adequate toilets and drinking water facilities at each parking site as well as at the main venue. Officials informed that 6,000 water gallons of 20 litres each have already been kept ready.

“We are once again eagerly waiting to welcome the Prime Minister to our state. The people of Barak Valley are excited about his visit,” Minister Hazarika said during the inspection, expressing confidence that the event would witness a historic turnout.

Rajya Sabha MP from Silchar, Kanad Purkayastha, Silchar MLA Dipayan Chakraborty, and Udharbond MLA Mihir Kanti Shome were also present during the visit.

The minister stated that the review was convened as per the direction of Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma to ensure that all arrangements are finalised well in advance and executed without any lapses.

Later, speaking to media persons, he said that during his visit, the Prime Minister is expected to lay the foundation stone and initiate several major projects, including the much awaited Guwahati–Silchar Expressway, the proposed Agricultural University at Patharkandi, and an elevated corridor aimed at improving urban connectivity, along with other development initiatives for Assam.

The minister expressed confidence that the visit would mark another milestone in the development journey of Barak Valley and assured that every effort is being made to make the programme a grand success.
