People quarantined at Jagannath Singh College complains about food quality, MLA pacifies them
May 25: Many passengers who entered Assam from other states were quarantined at Jagannath Singh College in Udharbond. Those who were put under compulsory quarantine at Jagannath Singh College alleged that the quality of food provided to them is not good, other complained of delay in delivering food. Allegation was also made regarding insufficient drinking water and frequent load-shedding. Some even clicked pictures and sent it to others. To take stock of the situation, Udharbond MLA Mihir Kanti Shome visited the quarantine centre at Jagannath Singh College on Monday afternoon.
The MLA was accompanied by Circle Officer of Udharbond Jayanta Chakraborty, and Officer in-charge of local police station Asit Sutradhar. However, most of the allegations made by those who are quarantined seemed to be baseless, stated the MLA. He was there in the college at 1 PM on Monday. In his presence food packets were delivered to the centre. Later on, the MLA said, “If lunch packets are delivered by 1.30 PM, then it’s at proper time. I see no delay in it. Even 3 litres of drinking water are provided to the inmates per head, per day. Proper breakfast is also provided to them.”
MLA Shome also said that some of them demanded meat to be served to them. He said, “Though chicken was not included in the menu, but they were given good quality rice, dal, vegetable curry & egg curry.” Speaking with the people quarantined there, MLA Shome urged upon them to cooperate with the administration as this is a critical time in which all of them are working day and night.”
