Only symptomatic people entering Assam will be tested

May 12: From now onward, only the symptomatic persons will be tested. Asymptomatic persons will not be tested. This was disclosed by State health Minister, Himanta Biswa Sarma during a press briefing in Guwahati on Tuesday. The minister said, “From today we are entering completely into a new area as trains have started to run. It will not be possible to test and get results quickly of such a huge number. Moreover, Government of India has also told the states not to test asymptomatic persons.”

Sarma said, “If we want to do test of all those who are entering Assam, then we will never be able to do that and we even cannot just finish doing that.” As such, he stated, “Those who will be coming to Assam from other states by train, bus or vehicles will be sent for compulsory and strict institutional quarantine facility.” Only those who would be symptomatic during the 14 days quarantine will be tested and necessary treatment will be given. But those who will be asymptomatic will not be tested.
